1:10,000 scale model covering a total
area of 290 km2
within the Njoro Watershed in Nakuru
District, Rift Valley Province, Kenya, 2007
Objective:
To facilitate the participatory identification of
natural resources and potential community development
projects and their location. This mapping initiative
is part of the
SUMAWA project which focuses on addressing watershed
ecosystem problems with community identified solutions
Participants:
Stakeholders were selected at random for this exercise.
Results:
Preliminary results indicate a gendered spatial
perception of resources.
Method:
P3DM Map was created using digital contour lines
that had been digitized from survey maps. Random
sampling of 4 administrative zones for participant
selection, invite selected resident, begin exercise
with an individual questionnaire quantifying the
surrounding, after questionnaire completion begin
3-D model exercise and data extraction. Digital
layers GIS have been created of mapped legend items
for data storage/preservation and GIS analysis.
