Participatory Avenues has been developed and is maintained by Giacomo Rambaldi. For 33 years Giacomo has been active in cooperation to development in South-east Asia, Africa, the South Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean. He has been promoting participatory approaches to planning and development, adoption of sustainable production systems and collaborative natural resource management. Giacomo has been working internationally for various agencies including FAO, the European Commission, the Italian Aid to Development, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) and for private consulting firms.
Awards
2013 – Giacomo and his colleague Ken Lohento received the WSIS 2013 Project Price in the category e-agriculture for an initiative focusing on building capacity in the domain of Web 2.0 and Social Media in developing countries.
2007 – Giacomo has been promoting the dissemination of PGIS good practice for many years. In 2007 a project he has been managing on behalf of CTA in Fiji received 2007 World Summit Award in the category e-culture
1999 – Giacomo contributed to successful and sustainable projects like the Wei Wei Integrated Development Project in Kenya, Africa. The project has been one of the seven recipients of the UNEP’s 1999 Saving the Drylands Certificate Award at the Third Conference of Parties to the Convention to Combat Desertification COP3-CCD held in Recife, Brazil, 22-25, November 1999. The project has been considered as a “Success Story in Land Degradation/Desertification Control”.
